Hey there! Have you heard of the double cleansing method? It's a super popular skincare technique that involves using not one, but two different cleansers to ensure that your skin is absolutely squeaky clean. First up is the oil-based cleanser, which is perfect for getting rid of makeup and sebum. Then, you follow it up with a water-based cleanser to get rid of any remaining dirt and impurities. The end result? A clear complexion and a happy face!

Now, let's talk about cleansing balms. These are basically your secret weapon in the first step of the double cleansing method. Made with a blend of oils, butters, and waxes, these little guys are solid at room temperature, but melt into an oil-like texture when you apply them to your skin. They're perfect for getting rid of tough makeup, dirt, and oil, all while being gentle on your skin. If you have dry or sensitive skin, cleansing balms are a total game-changer. Not only do they provide a thorough cleanse, but they also leave your skin feeling hydrated and happy. Plus, they're perfect for removing waterproof sunscreen - you know, the kind that usually takes forever to scrub off. Overall, cleansing balms are the BFF your skin has been waiting for!

That is why I want to share my newest formulation, Kaolin Clay &Charcoal Gentle Cleansing Balm, packed with natural ingredients such as Kaolin clay, colloidal oatmeal, charcoal powder, castor oil, and sunflower oil. It is an excellent option for anyone looking to take their cleansing routine to the next level.

Kaolin clay is a gentle and effective ingredient that helps to draw out impurities from the skin while also reducing excess oil. Colloidal oatmeal is another amazing natural ingredient that is known for its soothing and calming properties. Charcoal, on the other hand, is great for purifying the skin and removing dirt and toxins. Castor oil and sunflower oil are both rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, making them excellent moisturizers for the skin. When all of these skin-loving ingredients are combined in a cleansing balm, you get a powerful yet gentle formula that is perfect for all skin types. So, why not give it a try and see the difference for yourself?

To improve the spreadability and slip of the formulation, I included Caprylyl Caprylate/Caprate(you can use a lightweight emollient, ester, or more sunflower oil instead)  which is a lightweight, non-greasy emollient with a great sensory profile.

I chose Lotionpro 165 as my emulsifier as it's very common and easy to find, but you can also use Polawax, Emulsifying Wax NF, and even Emulsifying Wax Soft & Silky (Cetearyl Alcohol and Ceteareth-20).

Another great ingredient is Cera Bellina (INCI:  Polyglyceryl-3 Beeswax). Cera Bellina is also commonly used in anhydrous skincare formulations, such as lip balms and salves, because of its ability to provide a smooth and silky texture that glides easily onto the skin. You can add Cetyl Alcohol if you don't have Cera Bellina. It is not the same, of course, but cetyl alcohol also adds some silkiness and smoothness to the product so you should be fine.

Fragrance and essential oils are optional, I added a bit of Rose fragrance oils and the scent of the final product is lovely.

I was also making lip butter at the same time, so that's why you can see two beakers  in the water bath.

FORMULA

A 22.00% Sunflower Oil

A 22.00% Cetiol RLF

A 20.00% Kaolin clay (Rose Clay, Green Clay will also work in this formula)

A 15.00% Emulpharma 165/Lotionpro 165

A 9.00% Castor Oil

A 5.80% Cera Bellina

A 5.00% Colloidal Oatmeal

A      0.80 gram of charcoal powder (optional)

B 0.80% Vitamin E

B 0.20% Fragrance/Essential Oil of choice (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Melt the A-phase ingredients (oils, emulsifier, powders) in a double boiler.
2. Slightly cool down, gently stirring in between. Add the fragrance and Vitamin E. Stir well.
3. Let your balm thicken to the consistency of a lotion/cream. Stir every couple of minutes. This prevents your powders from sinking to the bottom.

4. Pour in jars and tins and enjoy!

Application: Begin with dry skin: Apply the cleansing balm to dry skin. Do not wet your skin or hands before applying the balm, as water will prevent the balm from properly adhering to your skin.

  1. Massage into the skin: Gently massage the balm onto your skin in a circular motion. The balm will start to break down and dissolve the makeup, dirt, and oil on your skin. Focus on areas that have heavy makeup or buildup, such as your forehead, nose, and chin.

  2. Emulsify: Once you have thoroughly massaged the balm onto your skin, wet your hands and continue to massage your face with wet hands. This will emulsify the balm and transform it into a milky texture that will help to lift away dirt and impurities.

  3. Rinse: Finally, rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean towel. Follow up with your regular skincare routine, such as toner, serum, and moisturizer.
