How to Make Luxurious Bath Truffles. Two Recipes
Bath truffles are a super-luxurious version of bath bombs. They fizz and foam and nourish the skin with a hefty amount of skin-loving oils and butter. Bath truffles are easy to make because unlike the bath bombs they don't include any water or alcohol so you don't have to be worried about activation.
I am giving you 2 recipes and you're more than welcome to change them, add different oils and butter, add more foaming agents, decorate with cocoa butter drizzle or mica drizzle, decorate with lavender buds or rose petals, add colloidal oatmeal. The possibilities are endless and you can dive as deep as you can into your creative superpower!
ORANGE &CINNAMON BATH TRUFFLES
RECIPE
140g Baking Soda
72g Citric Acid
18g Milk Powder (optional)
12g Kaolin Clay
6g SCI (you can use SLSA instead or skip this step)
56g Cocoa Butter
28g Cupuacu Butter (you can use Shea or Mango butter instead)
8g Emulsifying Wax NF (you can use Polawax or use more Polysorbate 80)
8g Fragrance Oil (I used Orange &Cinnamon, it's very warm and cozy)
28g Macadamia oil (you can use a different oil)
24g Polysorbate 80
0.4 mica or your colorant of choice
Makes 20 little heart shaped bath truffles
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Melt your butter and the emulsifier on a double boiler or in a microwave. I prefer the double boiler method.
2. While your butters are melting weigh your dry ingredients and sift them. Break all the clumps with a spatula or with your hands.
Milk Powder
3. Mix your polysorbate 80 with your carrier oil, a fragrance oil of choice, and your colorant. Incorporate into your dry mix.
4. Once your butter mixture is melted through let it cool so it's not super hot anymore and then combine your dry mixture and your melted ingredients.
5. Fill up your molds and set them in a cool place to harden.
I drizzled some mica inside the molds for a nice sparkly touch
ROSE JAM BATH TRUFFLES
This recipe is a little bit different because of the Baking Soda and Citric Acid ratio. In this formulation, it's 1:1 instead of 2:1 and it gives my bath truffles more fizz. You can try it both ways and see what you like more.
RECIPE
120g Baking Soda
120g Citric Acid
11g Kaolin Clay
15g SLSA
50g Cocoa Butter
22g Shea Butter (you can use mango butter instead)
10g Fragrance Oil
28g Polysorbate 80
0.1-0.2g Red Mica (optional)
